Peauxdunquians have more great news to report on the publications front:

April Blevins Pejic‘s essay, “Genetic Driftwood,” will appear later this fall in the Massachusetts Review‘s 60th anniversary issue.
Lavinia Spalding‘s essay, “Cabin,” originally published by Longreads, is being reprinted by Lonely Planet; and her story, “How Korean Karaoke Saved My Life,” originall published by World Hum, was reprinted by the New Zealand Herald.
Susan Bennett Vallee‘s piece, “The Reality of Racism,” about Maurice Carlos Ruffin‘s debut novel, We Cast a Shadow, has been published by Vie magazine.
Anne Babson‘s poem, “September Bunker,” will be published in Curator magazine; and her poems “Before” and “Findings at the Reichstag” will be published by India-based Ethos.

Maurice also moderated a conversation with friend-of-Peauxdunque Sarah Broom, on the packed-house/standing-room-only occasion of the release of her book, The Yellow House. Much love to our whole literary community!

More upcoming publication news from Peauxdunque. Long-time Peauxdunquian Susan Bennett Vallee will have her short story, “It Hurt to Remember,” appear in an upcoming issue of Deep South Magazine. And one of our newest members, Alex Johnson, has his story, “Forever Tonight,” in the inaugural issue of Situate Magazine!

Speaking of Situate, they will have a release party this Sunday, June 12, for their inaugural issue at Sidney’s Saloon (1200 St. Bernard, New Orleans) from 4 to 6 p.m. Peauxdunquian Maurice Carlos Ruffin, whose story, “A Brief Visit to San Dominick,” appears in the issue, will be a featured reader, along with C.W. Cannon. There will also be music spun by WWOZ dj George Ingmire, and a special showing of FLOTSAM (by Olivianne Motley) and DOUCE (by Leila Sabbagh and Monika Kozicz), in addition to homemade food, drinks, and other Festivities.

Publication update from Peauxdunque

Susan Vallee, Peauxdunque’s Florida contingent, checks in with a new book, Meet Me On 30A, published by Southwestern Publishing Group. Susan writes about the mix of natural habitat, old Florida coastal charm, and new urbanism along the stretch of Florida panhandle coast ribboned by highway 30A, and the book includes a number of photographs by Florida artists and recipes from chefs whose restaurants line the highway.

In additional publication news, Tad Bartlett has learned that his short story, “Through the Valley of the Shadow of Home,” has been accepted for publication in the October 2014 issue of up-and-coming journal, Bird’s Thumb. Tad performed a reading of this story at the Sunday Shorts reading series co-sponsored by Peauxdunque and the Melanated Writers Collective at the Red Star Galerie last year.

An update on competitions and publications

Peauxdunquian Maurice Ruffin’s short story “The Winter Lion” was selected as one of the top ten finalists in the 2012 Tennessee Williams Festival fiction contest. Many congratulations to Maurice!

Also, friend-of-Peauxdunque Susan Vallee has published an essay in VIE magazine entitled “A Writing Conference to Ruin the Rest,” (starts on page 64) about the Oxford American Summit for Ambitious Writers. An excellent essay, with great photos, including one of Susan along with friend-of-Peauxdunque Tom Franklin and Peauxdunquians Emily Choate, Terri Stoor, J.Ed. Marston, and Tad Bartlett.
